I shot this series of photographs at the machine shop warehouse of Sciaky, Inc., a Chicago-based company that specializes in the manufacturing, design, and development of electron beam welders and 3D printers. This company has special ties to my family, as both my father and grandfather worked and have worked there. My grandfather helped engineer many of the machines the company is known for today, which is part of the reason why I was so compelled to take these photos.
I chose to photograph the building because of the history behind the company and the building. There is an interesting juxtaposition between old and new throughout the large machine shop, which I aimed to capture through this series. I was also intrigued by the uniqueness and details of the items throughout the building, as many of the technologies the company develops are relatively unknown to those outside the field.
